This research laboratory was established in 1995 by Professors Yang Xianjin and Cui Zhenduo based on the Corrosion and Protection Teaching and Research Section of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Tianjin University. The current head of the research laboratory is Prof. Zhenduo Cui, and the executive head is Prof. Shengli Zhu.. It is affiliated with the Institute of Advanced Metallic Materials of the School of Materials Science and Engineering at Tianjin University. The research laboratory mainly focuses on the study of nanostructured catalytic and energy conversion materials, biomedical materials, organic semiconductor materials, and amorphous alloys.
The research laboratory has a strong teaching staff, with 8 full-time teachers, including 5 professors, 3 associate professors or associate researchers, and 2 visiting professors. Four of them have been included in the Clarivate Analytics "Highly Cited Researchers" list, one has received the National Natural Science Foundation of China's Distinguished Young Scholar Award, one has been selected as a national high-level talent, one has received the National Natural Science Foundation of China's Overseas Excellent Young Scholar Award, and one enjoys the special government allowance of the State Council. Currently, there are 17 doctoral students and over 40 master's students in the research laboratory. More than 100 doctoral and master's students have graduated, and many of them have received national scholarships during their studies.
The research laboratory has successively undertaken and completed more than 20 national and provincial-level scientific research projects. In the past decade, the total project funds have exceeded 20 million yuan. It has published over 400 articles in important academic journals at home and abroad, including top journals in the field such as Adv Mater, Chem Soc Rev, Angw Int Ed, Acta Mater, and JACS. There are more than 20 highly cited papers. It has applied for over 130 national invention patents, with more than 40 authorized. It has won three provincial and ministerial-level scientific research awards. In addition, the research laboratory has conducted cooperative research with many enterprises, such as Samsung Electro-Mechanics, China Zhongxin Deyi, Kennametal, and State Grid Power, helping them solve technical problems and converting scientific research achievements into actual productivity.
The research laboratory attaches great importance to external exchanges and cooperation. Teachers and students have opportunities to study abroad, pursue further studies, have short-term exchanges, and participate in international academic conferences. At the same time, the research laboratory regularly invites experts and scholars from home and abroad in related fields to give academic reports and conduct academic exchanges within the group, which helps the team broaden their horizons and learn from each other's strengths.
We welcome experts and scholars from universities, research institutions, and enterprises at home and abroad to visit, exchange, and cooperate with our research laboratory!
